Special projects

Contemporary Automotive does more than just automobiles!  Here are some unusual projects that required a bit of "thinking outside the box".  And, still have fun while doing them!

Murray Torpedo pedal car

Year: not determined

An unusual restoration project for us, this pedal car belongs to one of our automotive customers who requested that it be restored to the like-new condition he remembers as a boy.

Metal patio furniture

Year: not determined

Another example of an unusual non-auto restoration project, this set of metal patio furniture required disassembly of the furniture's two types of metal components before they could be refinished, powder-coated, and reassembled to a like-new condition.  This project was completed in spring 2006.

1937 Rolls Royce hearse

Year: 1937 (chassis year)
This is truly a classic!  This right-hand drive hearse was originally used in the Midlands area of Britain and was brought here in 1962 as a personal driving machine.  The vehicle had since been garaged.  The original body on this 1937 chassis was a Thrupp & Maberly 4-door limousine; the current hearse body is a custom aluminum model made by Simpson & Slater Ltd. of Nottingham (all pre-1939 Rolls Royce bodies were custom-made by others).  We rescued this hearse from a garage in Washington DC and sold it for its former owners.  It now serves as a display vehicle for a mortuary in Washington State.  Click here to see our photos!

The trip to the garage was an adventure.  Click here to see the process of having the hearse readied for the towing company.
